When a Car Next Door Borrower drives your car, we offset the associated greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing offsets from Greenfleet, which plants and manages biodiverse native forests in Australia.
How to offset your driving emissions
If you choose, you can help grow more forests by offseting the emissions from your own driving as well. Here’s how it works:
- Nominate how many kilometres you estimate you and your nominated drivers will drive in a year using this form
- We will process the payment through your Car Next Door account.
- You will receive a donation certificate from Greenfleet. All donations to Greenfleet are tax deductible.
- Greenfleet will plant trees in native forests on your behalf, and maintain them for years to come.
Greenfleet is an environmental not-for-profit organisation and Australia’s most trusted source of biodiverse carbon offsets, with a mission to protect our climate by restoring our forests. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted more than 8.5 million native trees across Australia – creating 400 biodiverse, permanent forests. You can see some beautiful photos of these restored landscapes at www.greenfleet.com.au.
Why does Car Next Door offset carbon emissions?
Car Next Door does not receive any commission or benefit from offsetting your, or your Borrowers’, emissions.
Reducing the impact of car use on the planet is a key part of our mission. Sharing existing cars reduces the number that need to be manufactured, and reduces per-capita driving. By offsetting emissions that can’t be avoided, through credible, long-term emissions reduction projects that also help restore native forests and biodiversity in Australia, we reduce the impact of the driving that people still need to do.
